Originally hailing from Australia's capital, Canberra, Artemis left Canberra as one of the leading DJs in the Canberra dance scene. She now calls Melbourne home and is already beginning to make a name for herself there too. Although known best for her hard uplifting sounds, she is also known for her enormous versitility. She began mixing old school happy hardcore in 1999, but her first style quickly changed to encompass hard house, which she played at her first set in 2000. Her current styles include prog/tech/house/electro, trance, hard dance and hardcore and just about everywhere in between.
She has great ability to get people on the floor and coupled with her unique ability to fuse different styles together to suit any set made her a formidable force in the Canberra dance music scene. This ability has earned her acclaim from many and made her one of Canberra's most sought after DJs. In Melbourne she continues to leave her mark, with residencies and guest spots at Illusion, Elevation, Hard Kandy, Pharmacy, Bass Australia, 3D, Element, G.O.D. and Interview.
Since her debut set in February 2000, her career has sky rocketed, playing at big events such as Slinky and Advent*jah, supporting the likes of Tiësto, Alphazone, Lab4, Lucien Foort, K90, Blank & Jones, Misjah Helsloot, Überdruck, Mark Sherry, Brisk, Hixxy and Kevin Energy, just to name a few. She made her international debut in New Zealand in 2004, playing at Slinky in Auckland (alongside Judge Jules and Lange) and 3 other gigs in NZ as headline act. 2005 saw her billed to headline 2 gigs in the USA and she now makes regular interstate appearances around Australia.
On New Years Eve 04/05 she was paired with local trance DJ/producer Peekz (www.djpeekz.com) but after leaving a lasting impression on the crowd that night, the two were booked to play together as Artemeekz at many local events since, including support gigs for Adam White (UK), Robert Nickson (UK), Liquid M (Syd) and the Bass Station CD Launch...
In early 2005, Artemis branched out to include house, techno and electro. Her style can only be described as driving, funky with a heavy techno influence, with the likes of Valentino Kanzyani, Axel Karakasis, DJ Dan, Grooveman, DJ Electro One and Bryan Cox frequenting her record box...
And for interest sake, the origins of her stage name... Artemis was derived from ancient mythology - Artemis was the Greek Goddess of the moon, a huntress (fearless in opposing her adversaries) and Queen of the animals. She was known in Roman mythology as Diana, Goddess of the moon and Queen of Heaven, and also in Egypt as Bast, Goddess of Cats, enlightenment, art, music, dance, drugs, sex, physical pleasure, the moon, the rising sun and dawn. Artemis' temple (in Turkey) is one of the 7 ancient wonders of the world.
